The leading global luxury real estate brand landed on the shores of Miami Beach last week, coming from as far as Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe, Central America, The Caribbean, Canada, South Africa and even Dubai. Sotheby’s International Realty hosted its annual Global Networking Event (GNE) in Miami from September 8-11th, 2014 at the waterfront Fontainebleau Hotel.
Over 1,500 agents, brokers and owners filtered into the resort in the days preceding the event, many of whom were invited to select events held around the coastal venue. Members of Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty toured the Ritz Carlton Residences by boat. Comprised of 111 condominiums and 15 single family villas on seven acres, these modern and elegantly designed homes boast Italian craftsmanship, bayside amenities, rooftop pools, a 36 slip boat marina, and resort-style services.
Agents were treated to a yacht tour hosted by Raymond Bolduc, of ONE Sotheby’s, around the northern end of Gorce Island where celebrity Billy Joel recently sold his estate, a waterfront tour of avant guard Aqua Park, and up and coming Normandy Island, before heading through the narrows to Surprise Lake when the Ritz Carlton event was held. Upon approaching the dock, we were graced with the presence of a VanDutch, the most elegant yacht known to man with a price tag starting in the millions.
The main event commenced Monday evening, with a host of catered gatherings in the grand ballrooms and even a club night in the Liv nightclub. Wendy Purvey, Chief Marketing Officer, and Philip White, President and CEO of Sotheby’s International Realty hosted an extraordinary event, featuring guest speaker Pat Riley of the Miami Heat, and original motion picture productions featuring new innovative marketing tools to roll out next spring. The announcement was made halfway through the event that one of Sotheby’s Texas affiliates had just listed an 8 square mile ranch priced at $750,000, now the highest priced listing, worldwide. The listing agent sent his regards as he was too busy to attend the conference.
Daily breakout sessions were held, dedicated to agent knowledge & productivity, new marketing strategies and software. Top industry leaders lectured and presented insights and breadth of knowledge based on decades of property sales in a changing world of technology. We attended a Farm and Ranch session with several of the top agents in the market, including Suzanne Perkins, who just listed a $125 Million property in Montecito, and Bill Fandel who has the largest market share in ranch listings for Telluride, CO. We also spent an evening with our sister companies Fuller Sotheby’s of Denver and resort area CO markets, and Summit Sotheby’s partners in Park City, UT. As we are part of the same company, Majestic Realty, we collaborate on marketing and share resources under our leadership of Scott Webber and Thomas Wright. This mountain west resort market connection is valuable and we refer back and forth within our company as buyers and sellers looking for ski markets have a wide variety of aspects to consider in location, amenities, mountain culture, and tax planning.
Several of our Lake Tahoe agents were invited to a Bay Area Networking Event hosted by Decker Bullock and Dreyfus Sotheby’s Realty, which served as one of the best opportunities to connect with agents who represent buyers and sellers in our main feeder market. It was an opportunity to speak with the purveyors of the most innovative marketing angles. Michael Dreyfus and his group have studied their market and demographic to understand what buyers and sellers really want from their agents and deliver. Their full service approach, from staging their homes to arranging repairs and maintenance make the process of home selling seamless for their extremely busy clients. Veteran broker and past owner of Sotheby’s Realty in Oahu Mary Worrall was present with their group of agents, unique in their link to the Japanese market strategically situated in the mid-Pacific with huge draw for Japanese tourism and relocation to the island.

Each affiliate office also showcases exceptional Management, Marketing and Administration Teams. The event’s success was rooted in the strength of local members representing the brand as leaders in individual markets. The professional connections and common goal of linking qualified international sellers and buyers units this core group who represent the leading brand in global luxury real estate. GNE highlights included keynote speaker Pat Riley, the unveiling of the Sotheby’s International Realty next wave of forward-thinking technology and marketing initiatives and of course a little bit of networking at some of Miami’s hot spots.
